This Week's Cougar Cubs Highlights
Hello VES Families,
We had another great week at Vicenza Elementary School, filled with successful study trips across grade levels. Even with the rainy weather, our students made the most of every experience and had a wonderful time learning beyond the classroom. Thank you to our teachers for planning these meaningful opportunities and to our parent volunteers for helping make each trip a positive and memorable experience for our students.
As we look ahead, we have several important events coming up, including our 1st Grade Pajama Party Musical, Rising 6th Grade transition activities, and an upcoming 11:00 a.m. early release for CSI training. Please also note there is no school on Friday, May 22, before observing the Memorial Day federal holiday on May 25. Bookmark our VES calendar to stay up to date.
As we begin planning for next school year, if you have not yet registered your child for School Year 2026–2027, please take a few moments to do so. If you need any assistance, our main office is happy to help.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Mr. Caballero
Vicenza ES Principal

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate: Important for Children
Proper hydration is critical for students to maintain cognitive function, concentration, and energy levels.
recommendations often around 8 cups daily (64 oz) or more
Students should carry a reusable water bottle, drink regularly rather than only when thirsty, and choose water over sugary drinks to support focus and overall health.
Key Hydration Tips for Students
- Carry a Bottle: Keep a reusable water bottle in bags to make taking sips between classes or during study sessions easy.
- Drink by Schedule: Set reminders to drink hourly or pair water consumption with daily routines like meal times and before/after school.
- Monitor Urine Color: A clear or light yellow color indicates proper hydration, while dark yellow can indicate the need for more fluids.
- Hydrate During Study: Sipping water while studying can combat tiredness and improve concentration.
- Eat Hydrating Foods: Include water-rich snacks in packed lunches, such as cucumbers, watermelon, grapes, and oranges.
Daily Fluid Recommendations (Ages 5-18)
- 5-8 year olds: Approximately 40 fl oz (5 cups).
- 9-13 year olds: Approximately 54-61 fl oz (6-7cups).
- Physical Activity: Students should drink extra fluids before, during, and after exercise to replace sweat losses. [1, 2]
Benefits of Staying Hydrated
- Improved Brain Function: Even mild dehydration can impair cognitive performance and concentration.
- Better Energy Levels: Prevents lethargy and reduces headaches caused by lack of water.
- Enhanced Focus: Proper hydration helps students stay alert during lectures and exams.
What to Drink
- Water: The best, most cost-effective option for all hydration needs.
- Milk: A good source for meeting daily fluid goals, particularly for younger students.
- Limit Caffeine/Sugar: While coffee, tea and energy drinks are popular, they can have diuretic effects and increase the need for water.
