This Week's Cougar Cubs Highlights

Hello VES Families,

Another busy and exciting week at VES! As Spring Break approaches, you can feel the energy throughout the building. Our students are working hard, staying active, and definitely ready for a well-deserved mental break.

It was wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm during the recent Robotics competition. We are incredibly proud of all of our participants for their teamwork, creativity, and perseverance. Great job to everyone involved!

Field trip season is just around the corner. If you plan to assist with your child’s class, please remember to stop by the front office to complete a volunteer form ahead of time.

With chilly mornings and warm afternoons, we are seeing an increase in items in our lost and found. Please be sure your child’s name is clearly labeled on jackets and outerwear. As students begin transitioning to warmer weather clothing, we also ask that families review the DoDEA dress code before students leave for school each day.

As part of our continued commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for all students and staff, the front office will be implementing more consistent visitor procedures. All visitors should be prepared to present identification upon entering the school. While this is a slight adjustment from current practice, we will ensure a smooth transition and appreciate your cooperation. Please know that we always welcome families into our school community.

Be on the lookout for upcoming Month of the Military Child activities. We look forward to celebrating our military-connected students throughout the month.

Thank you for your continued support, and have a wonderful weekend!

Warmly,

Mr. Caballero

The 2026 DoDEA Europe FIRST LEGO League tournament wrapped up this week, and Vicenza Elementary School had an outstanding showing!

Pen Pals Across Cultures: A Growing Partnership with Effetà School

Last week, students in Ms. Herendeen’s class experienced a special moment as they opened letters from their new pen pals at the Effetà School in Italy. This exchange is part of a partnership that began in the fall, giving students the opportunity to connect with peers from another culture through written communication.

The excitement was evident as students eagerly read their letters, learning about their Italian counterparts and sharing in the joy of making new international friends. These meaningful connections help build cultural awareness, communication skills, and global understanding.

The partnership will continue to grow, with an in-person meeting planned for May. Students are already looking forward to meeting their pen pals and strengthening the friendships they have begun through their letters.

Third Grade Robotics Wraps Up Session 1, Session 2 Begins April 9

Third grade students recently wrapped up an exciting first session of Robotics, where they explored coding, engineering, and teamwork through hands-on challenges. Throughout the session, students designed, built, and programmed their robots, strengthening their problem-solving skills while collaborating with classmates. From testing designs to troubleshooting code, students showed perseverance and creativity every step of the way.

We are incredibly proud of the growth and enthusiasm our young engineers demonstrated during Session 1. Session 2 of Third Grade Robotics will begin on Thursday, April 9, giving a new group of students the opportunity to experience the same builds, challenges, and learning that made the first session such a success.

Little Scientists, Big Discoveries

PreK students from Ms. DeCaro’s class teamed up with second graders in Ms. Ahearn’s class for an exciting, hands-on biology experience. Gathered around a classroom habitat, students eagerly observed and discussed the living organisms inside, using tools like magnifiers and lights to get a closer look. The second graders helped guide their younger peers by sharing what they’ve learned about habitats, living things, and observation skills. The activity sparked curiosity, teamwork, and lots of thoughtful questions as students explored science together in a fun and meaningful way.

VES Chess Club Heats Up: Second Group Prepares for Championship

Students in the second group of the VES Chess Club have been hard at work sharpening their strategies and practicing their moves as they compete for a spot in the upcoming Chess Club Championship. Throughout their sessions, students demonstrated focus, sportsmanship, and growing confidence as they challenged one another across the board. With each match, they are building critical thinking skills and determination, all while having fun. The excitement is building as these young chess players aim to qualify for the championship round.
