This Week's Cougar Cubs Highlights

Hello VES Families,

Another busy week at Vicenza ES.  Our students had a great week participating in the various events for Read Across America week.  Many dressed in their favorite sport or team wear..none with Texas Tech tough☹.  Special thanks to author Mr. Fales, he entertained the students and was well received with the question-and-answer session.

Special thanks to Ms Sorrell for the fantastic planning of the Read Across America week.  The hard work ensured our students were engaged in the activities.

Thanks to the PTSA and the community for supporting VES events and activities.  Your commitment to our students is greatly appreciated.

Please look for upcoming events and opportunities to volunteer here in Cub Land.

Warmly,
Mr. Caballero

Read Across America Week at Vicenza Elementary

Vicenza Elementary School recently celebrated Read Across America Week from March 2–6, joining schools across the United States in promoting the joy of reading and encouraging students to become lifelong readers. Led nationally by the National Education Association, Read Across America highlights the importance of literacy and the power of books to inspire young minds.

Sharing Stories at Breakfast with Books

Breakfast with Books brought families and the Vicenza community together to celebrate the joy of reading. Military volunteers, parents, and PTSA members visited classrooms to share stories with students, creating a warm and engaging start to the day. It was a wonderful reminder that reading is even more powerful when it is shared with others.

Parade of Nations Celebrates School Spirit

Vicenza Elementary students and staff showed their Olympic spirit during the Parade of Nations as part of Read Across America Week. Classes proudly represented countries from around the world while parading through campus to Olympic-themed music.

Kindergarten led the procession, followed by the other grades, while parents and visiting middle and high school students cheered them on. Each class enthusiastically announced the country they were representing, making the event a fun celebration of culture, reading, and school spirit.

Drop Everything and Read

During Read Across America Week, students and staff at Vicenza Elementary participated in Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) each day. At the announced time, classrooms paused their regular activities so students could relax and enjoy at least 20 minutes of reading.

These photos show third grade students taking part in DEAR, quietly reading and getting lost in their books as part of the school’s celebration of reading.

International Friendship at Vicenza Elementary

On Tuesday, March 3, Vicenza Elementary School welcomed fourth-grade students from Montebelluna in Treviso for a special cultural exchange. After first connecting through a letter exchange, the students from Ms. Kearns’ class and their Italian peers had the opportunity to finally meet in person.

During the visit, students shared a snack sponsored by the PTSA and worked together on classroom activities using computers. As they collaborated, the students practiced communicating with one another in both English and Italian, creating a fun and meaningful learning experience.

We would like to thank Ms. Kearns for her flexibility and enthusiasm in making this exchange possible, and the PTSA for generously providing snacks for the students. The visit was a wonderful opportunity for students to build friendships and experience international learning firsthand.
