Vicenza ES Kicks Off the Olympics in Style
Vicenza Elementary School came together for an unforgettable celebration as students and staff launched their very own Olympic Opening Ceremony in honor of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Held in the MPR, the assembly brought the spirit of the Games right into the building. Each class proudly represented a different country in a VES “Parade of Nations,” cheering as their nation was introduced. Teachers and students embraced the experience fully, showing incredible creativity through handmade posters, colorful flags, themed outfits, and strong teamwork.
Students also took the lead as presenters, helping the audience learn more about the Olympics. They shared the meaning behind the Olympic Games, explained traditions and symbols, and introduced the official mascots, turning the assembly into both a celebration and a learning experience. Their confidence and knowledge helped everyone better understand the history and spirit of this global event.
One of the most talked-about highlights was the ceremony atmosphere itself, complete with a creative “cauldron” moment that added to the authentic Olympic feel. The energy in the room was electric, and the enthusiasm from both students and staff made the afternoon truly special.
The event was designed not only as a celebration, but also as an ongoing connection to the Winter Games. Classes have the opportunity to track medal counts for their chosen countries, with updates displayed along the hallway leading to the gym. This friendly connection helps students stay engaged with the Olympics happening right here in Italy while building schoolwide excitement.
The success of the ceremony was made possible through collaboration and positivity across the staff. Appreciation goes out to everyone who participated, shared ideas, and supported the event.
VES is already looking forward to the next opportunity to celebrate together and keep the Olympic spirit alive in our school community.
