VICENZA, Italy — After 45 years dedicated to education, including 37 years serving military-connected students with the Department of Defense Education Activity, Vicenza Elementary School third-grade teacher Linda Testa is retiring, closing a remarkable chapter of service to the Vicenza military community.

Testa spent 27 of her years in Vicenza, where she became a trusted educator, mentor and steady presence for generations of students and families. Known for her warmth and commitment to student growth, she built lasting relationships that extended well beyond the classroom.

To mark her retirement, Testa chose a celebration that reflected her character and appreciation for her students. She recently brought her current third-grade class to Vicenza High School to surprise her former third graders—now high school students—with a meal of custom-made Italian pasta. The visit offered students an opportunity to reconnect with a teacher who played a formative role early in their education and served as a reminder of the lasting impact educators can have across the years.

Colleagues and families describe Testa as an educator who consistently placed students at the center of her work. Throughout her career, she supported academic growth while also fostering confidence, kindness and a sense of belonging—qualities especially meaningful for students in military families who often experience frequent transitions.

Beyond her classroom responsibilities, Testa was known for mentoring fellow educators and contributing to the broader school community. Her institutional knowledge and steady leadership helped support continuity for students and staff alike.

As Testa begins her retirement, the Vicenza school community expressed deep gratitude for her decades of service and dedication. While her daily presence in the classroom will be missed, the lessons she imparted and the relationships she built will continue to resonate with former students long after they leave Vicenza.

Testa’s legacy is one defined by commitment, compassion and an unwavering belief in her students’ potential—an influence that will endure for years to come.
