Ms. Stokes Brings the Winter Olympics to Life in P.E.

Our gym has been transformed into an Olympic arena, and it is all thanks to the creativity and energy of Ms. Stokes.

As part of a schoolwide Winter Olympics theme, each classroom teacher chose a country to represent in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. Students proudly compete on behalf of their class nation during P.E., and Ms. Stokes is keeping a running medal count (2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics) that has everyone talking in the hallways.

She has recreated winter events using fun and safe gym adaptations that keep students moving and fully engaged. Balance and coordination are put to the test as students “snowboard” on balance boards and "bobsled" on mats and roller carts. Teamwork shines during floor hockey games where passing, communication, and goal scoring take center stage. Students also take part in curling-inspired challenges, carefully sliding equipment toward targets and learning about control and strategy. Accuracy events add another layer of excitement as students aim for targets just like precision winter sports.

The impact goes far beyond physical skills. Students are learning sportsmanship, perseverance, and how to support their teammates. Representing a country has also sparked conversations about geography and global connections, helping students see how sports can bring the world together.

Ms. Stokes has created an environment where fitness, learning, and fun come together. Her thoughtful planning and enthusiasm have turned PE into an unforgettable Olympic experience where every student feels like an athlete.

We are so grateful for the joy, energy, and heart Ms. Stokes brings to our school. The Winter Olympics may be happening on the world stage, but thanks to her, the spirit of the Games is alive and well right here in our gym.
