Chess Club Off to a Strategic Start at VES

Our VES Chess Club is off to a fantastic start, and students in grades 3 to 5 are already showing great focus, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm each week. Meeting every Tuesday after school, Chess Club has become a favorite place for students to challenge themselves, think ahead, and have fun with friends.

Whether students came in as beginners or experienced players, everyone is growing. Club members are building important skills like critical thinking, problem solving, planning ahead, and learning how to win and lose with good sportsmanship. It has been wonderful to see students encouraging one another, shaking hands before matches, and celebrating smart moves and close games.

The season is organized into two sessions. Session 1 runs from January 13 through February 24, and Session 2 runs from March 3 through April 21. With limited spots available, participation has been strong, and students have really taken ownership of their learning and gameplay.

Chess Club is more than just a game. It is a chance for students to slow down, think carefully, and practice patience and perseverance in a fun, social environment. We are proud of how well our young strategists are representing VES and look forward to an exciting season of learning and friendly competition.
